Today in the Writer Spotlight: Jacquelyn Martin!
Updated: Apr 21, 2020
How old are you and where are you from?
I am 33 yrs old and I am from Columbus, OH.
Tell us more about your book!
Charm the Magic Mermaid is so personal for Charm and I! We decided to write this book in an effort to help other families, especially siblings, understand the preemie journey of life. Using a little animation to help tell a little part of our actual story. I know my own children had no idea what was happening and it was hard to explain all the different things so this book series will cover the different things that preemie babies can experience.
You are sharing an elevator with a big name publisher. Pitch your book using 20 words or less
The first of it's kind. An adventurous book series of a premature mermaid, entailing the journey and obstacles preemies face.
What does your ideal writing space look like?
A desk and a bean bag chair with one of those faux fur blankets. A plant somewhere, but I can pretty much write anywhere my children are not.
If your book was turned into a movie who would play your main characters?
Well I can't think of any baby actresses so I would go with Quvenzhané Wallis to play Charm. Morris Chestnut to play the King and Zoe Saldana to play the Queen.
You’re stranded on an island, and only one character from any book can save you. Who are you picking?
I would have to go with Midnight from Sister Souljah’s book series without a doubt!
Besides being a writer what else do you enjoy?
Where do I begin? I love crafts (smiles) I do all kinds of crafts however I really enjoy crafting what I call Charm boxes...which are jewelry/trinket boxes. I also enjoy giving back to my community which prompted S.O.S.! I am the founder of S.O.S. (SaveOurSelves) Columbus; a nonprofit organization created to inspire unity among people and give our youth better opportunities to exceed!
Do you have any upcoming book promotions coming up?
With the pandemic being the focus of the world right now and Charm being high risk, we are not taking any chances with face to face interactions which prompted us to take a more creative approach when promoting our upcoming book! We recently partnered with S.O.S; my non-profit and brought Easter to the city of Columbus setting up Easter egg hunts for families so Easter would not have to be completely canceled! Additionally we are starting a live storytime for our little readers! Join us every Saturday at 11:30 am EST! Please be sure to follow our Facebook and IG page Charm the Magic Mermaid so that you can read along with us! We are also working on getting our social media lives put on the blog as well! We are so excited about the release of Charm the Magic Mermaid this summer!
