In The Spotlight Today: Treana White!
Tell me about yourself! How old are you, and where are you from?
My name is Treana White. I am a 21-year-old Child Psychology major! I am an aspiring social worker, I am originally from Texas but reside in Las Vegas. I am a poet and a writer in general. My main goal is to infiltrate the foster care system and make changes from the inside out, while also spreading awareness through my writings. I would love to open up my own business centered around struggling foster youth and motivate them letting them know there is light at the end of the tunnel. Since I did not have that guidance, this really means the world to me.
Give us a summary of your book!
My book is an overview of the challenges I faced early on and throughout my life to this point. At the age of 5 my mother passed away. At that time my father felt it was too much of a burden, he could not handle the pain so he fell to drugs for comfort, he then gave me away. With the pain of neglect and bereavement, I found a passion for writing, I would express myself through the pen and paper. I surfed through foster homes each worse than the other, undergoing sexual, physical and mental abuse. Once I hit the 6th grade my mother's sister became my foster parent. The treatment I received there was by far worse than any I received in the other foster homes combined. These trials along with the inspirational words of my high school mentor are what shaped me and gave me the strength to keep going, the reason behind the title. Resilient, I have overcome these amongst many other predicaments as well. With hopes to become a social worker. I dream of infiltrating the foster care system and helping those children much like myself. My book gives a peek into the life I lived as an abused foster child, it takes each chapter of my life and condenses it to where it's relatable to our youth today.
What inspired you to write this book?
My inspiration for writing this book was my pain. I have been through so much pain from losing my mom, my father abandoning me, being molested multiple times, having my dream deferred and so much more. This pain is what helped me discover my passion, that passion is what inspired me to share my story. I want other young children to know that you are not what you have been through but where you are going.

Have you written any fiction novels as well? If not, would you and what genre?
No, if so I would chose romance. I love a great love story!
What are two of your favorite books? Least favorite?
My favorite book is a Song Flung To Heaven by Maya Angelou and Also I know why the Caged bird sings. I don't have a least favorite book, I never read a book that I don't think with interest me.
Do you have any other hobbies, or businesses that you would like to share? I am a spoken word poet. My book actually includes some of my works. That is my passion aside from writing in general.
