In The Spotlight Today: J.J. Lamb!

How old are you and where are you from?

I was born in Fort Wayne, IN 87 years ago.

How old were you when you realized you wanted to be a writer?

I was about 21; fell out of love with aeronautical engineering; fell in love with journalism. First fiction (short story) was written and sold in my mid-20s; first novel was published when I was 44.

Tell us more about your book! What inspired you to write it?

Inspiration for BONE POINT came from reading about how poorly veterans were being treated overall by the government, and in particular, by the VA. This is the eighth novel in the “Gina Mazzio RN Medical Thriller series, which I write with my wife, Bette Golden Lamb. The book tells how a fictitious VA hospital, which is about to be closed, is being used as one cog in the wheel of a drug-stealing-smuggling-sales ring.

If you could relate to any character in your book, who would it be and why?

Almost any of veteran characters sin the book, since I’m a veteran myself (but without any personal involvement with VA hospitals).

What type of books do you enjoy? What are two of your favorites?

Mysteries and thrillers, such as the Travis Magee books by John D. MacDonald and Bill Pronzini’s standalones.

Besides reading and writing, what else do you enjoy doing during your free time? Do you have any other businesses?

I’m a great motion picture buff, seeing 50-60 movies a year in theaters, plus about that same number on DVDs and direct TV broadcast. I’ve works as a journalist, publicist, and PR executive during the time of my early books. But no other jobs or businesses at the present time.

If you could pick any song to describe your main character, what would it be?

“Confident.”

Do you have any upcoming books in the works?

Yes, a new mystery series involving a professional potter. Not as gritty as the Gina Mazzio books, but not a cozy, either.

Do you have any book specials/giveaways or events coming up?

We do discount special (99-cent) about once a month.

Where can readers keep up with you on social media? Post your usernames!

Anything else you would like to share?

In addition to the “Bone” series I write with Bette, I have a long-standing PI series featuring Zachariah Tobias Rolfe III, who specializes in gambling cases. The most recent Zach book, NO PAT HANDS, was nominated for a “Shamus” award from the Private Eye Writers of America.
