In The Spotlight Today: Gin Spaulding!

How old are you and where are you from?

I am old enough to know better, yet too young to refuse!! Let’s just say I’m a young retiree. I’m originally from Tennessee, but I’ve lived in Louisville, KY for almost 28 years now. So…Louisville is my home!

Tell us more about your book!

A Miracle at Bates Memorial is about how I FINALLY learned how to manage and understand my child’s sensory issues. She had sensory issues to sound, touch, movement, balancing, and light. Even though our Li-Li had therapy, I (as her mom) STILL didn’t understand until that one day at church.

You’re sharing an elevator with a big name publisher. Pitch your book using 20 words or less!

There aren’t many books written about sensory issues. My book will introduce sensory issues and speech delays, while teaching empathy & understanding.

What does your ideal writing space look like?

I really don’t have an “ideal” space. I can write ANYWHERE!! I do usually like to type everything on my daughter’s laptop or our computer.

If your book was turned into a movie, who would play your main characters?

Wow…That’s a great question. I would like Denzel Washington to play my husband because he seems laid back like him. Jennifer Hudson could play me because she seems so sweet and passionate about everything. I don’t know who could play Li-Li…. maybe my great niece.

You’re stranded on an island, and only one character from any book can save you. Who are you picking?

My husband, Larry. He can fix ANYTHING, and he is calm and cool is EVERY situation!!!

Besides being a writer, what else do you enjoy?

I enjoy volunteering to feed the homeless, spending time with my daughter and husband, traveling, making blankets for my daughter’s charity, going to the YMCA, going to church, etc.

Do you have any upcoming book promotions?

On March 16th, I will participate in a Book Fair at Rivergate Mall near Nashville, KY
