In The Spotlight Today: Chakesha Shurn
Tell me about yourself! How old are you, and where are you from?
Chakesha: My name is Chakesha Shurn. I am from a small town in Northern Indiana, where I was born and raised! I am a 36-year-old mother of 2. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 12 years and counting.
Give us a summary of your book!
Chakesha: My book, Death Before Life: My Story For His Glory, is just as the title says.... for His Glory! I call this book “my obedience to God”. It is my story of how God took my broken heart, after the loss of my two-year-old daughter to meningitis, and carefully put it back together with His crafter hands!
If you could pick one song to describe this book, what would it be?
Chakesha: If I could pick one song that perfectly describes my book, it would be “Because you loved me” by Celine Dion! I couldn’t see my way, I was in the dark and only came out because He loved me. He made me see the truth of who He was, so I could stand boldly and tell my story, bringing Him all the glory!
Have you written any fiction novels as well? If not, would you and what genre?
Chakesha: I have not written any fiction books. I read the books of authors such as William Paul Young, who wrote The Shack, which is my favorite book by the way, and I don’t see my imagination being as vivid as that. I may be wrong, but I haven’t tried so maybe one day in the future I’ll give it a try. It would definitely be Christian based though.
What are two of your favorite books? Least favorite?
Chakesha: As I stated earlier, my absolute favorite book is The Shack! It challenges you to think about God in such an unconventional manner while still enforcing who the Bible tells us He is! No other book has stood out so significantly as The Shack has for me.

Anything else you would like to share?
Chakesha: We all know someone in our lives, or it may be you personally, that has experienced a significant loss. A loss that has knocked them for a loop and took them down a path that God did not intend.... this book is for them. It’s a reminder that our God loves us beyond our comprehension and wants us to be whole. This book releases the grace for your loved one, or even yourself, to be healed in Jesus name!
