In The Spotlight today: Ashleigh Guice!

How old are you and where are you from?

29, Jackson, Ms.

How old were you when you realized you wanted to be a writer?

24

Tell us more about your book! What inspired you to write it?

Well I have 2 books. The first book, How to X Your Ex: A Guide to Getting Past Unhealthy Relationships, is a non-fiction inspired by my experience with several breakups during a short period of time. I learned how to move past relationships really quickly so I decided to write down my steps. My second book, Single Woman Chronicles: An Atlanta Love Story…Kinda, is a fiction inspired by my interesting dating history in Atlanta. It is loosely based off of my life with a lot of dramatization. I wanted people to see a lot of the pitfalls we all share when dating and how it looks from the outside looking in.

If you could relate to any character in your book, who would it be and why?

In Single Woman Chronicles: An Atlanta Love Story…Kinda, I am both Arianna and Bianca. I can relate to Arianna from 18-26 because she is really lost and wants love so badly but has no idea how much she is sabotaging her own love life. Then Bianca would be me now after growing up and healing internally after spending time with God and myself.

What type of books do you enjoy? What are two of your favorites?

I love urban novels that tell stories about drug dealers, stalkers, sex workers, etc. It’s like my guilty pleasure. People may think I’m strange but I live vicariously through these books because it’s exciting to create the imagery in your brain but even more exciting that you don’t have to live this life to be apart of the story, you can just read it. It’s my dose of excitement because my life is super chill. I also love Christian books that use scripture to apply it to practical problems we all face. My favorite urban novel is A Moth to a Flame, it actually made me cry. My favorite Christian book is Wait and See, it is a great book for when you feel like God is taking too long with His promise. It helps you put your wait into perspective.

Besides reading and writing, what else do you enjoy doing during your free time? Do you have any other businesses?

I love dancing. I grew up thinking I’d be a background dancer for Ciara for a long time. I stopped once I graduated college and I still regret it. I had just started auditioning for big artists and really getting into the industry then I just quit. I’ve decided to start taking classes because I miss the art. I do have other businesses but I really don’t talk much about them because they’re just a means to an end. I’ve been blessed to be a full-time entrepreneur for over a year now but I mainly focus all my energy on my blog and books.

If you could pick any song to describe your main character, what would it be?

Jhene Aiko Comfort Inn Ending is the perfect song. Arianna keeps allowing men to have their way with her without learning the lesson.

Do you have any upcoming books in the works?

I just released my first audiobook for Single Woman Chronicles: An Atlanta Love Story…Kinda. It’s available on Audible and iTunes. I’ll be releasing book 2 in summer of 2019.

Do you have any book specials/giveaways or events coming up?

I will be doing some specials on my website SingleWomanChronicles.com for Cyber Monday so don’t miss that. I have some T-shirts on sale for $4.99.
