In The Spotlight Today: Alvira Michaels!

Updated: Aug 21, 2019

How old are you and where are you from?

I’m 48 years young, and live in the United Kingdom.

Tell us more about your book!

It’s called The Hand of Fate. It's chick lit with a supernatural theme running through it. The main

character is a woman on a search for love and meaning to her life. She does, eventually, find it but has to deal with gas lighting and gang stalking as a targeted individual along the way. I've written it with total sincerity and have also included some social issues that I hope resonate with some people. There are highs and lows - but it's not for the faint of heart. There's magic mixed with romance and friendship too. I think that it's a very inspiring story for women of all colours. Although I've mentioned that it's chick lit, men are not excluded from reading it. Hope you like it. Synopsis below:

She was still coming to terms with being adopted, then all of a sudden she was thrust into the limelight by a celebrity and had to deal with the resulting fallout. Determined to live her life her way, on her terms, Alexandra Gray, who hails from London, finds love across the pond and settles in San Francisco to start a new life. After riding a roller coaster of emotions, Alex embarks on a personal journey that eventually uncovers the truth of who she is, and reveals her true path. This is a story about a woman who overcame adversity despite the odds stacked against her, a story about not giving up, no matter what life throws at you. The Hand of Fate is a reminder that although some things are fated, we ultimately have a hand in our own destiny. If you have faith and believe in the magic of the universe, anything is possible. And sometimes those who have passed before us help light the way.

You’re sharing an elevator with a big name publisher. Pitch your book using 20 words or less!

I have a great supernatural chick lit novel that I think you’d like. It’s like Charmed meets Waiting to Exhale.

What does your ideal writing space look like?

Somewhere far away from city life. A log cabin in the countryside, with my desk by a window

overlooking a river or lake.

If your book was turned into a movie, who would play your main characters?

Alex would be played by Zazie Beetz or Amerie (sorry, can’t decide)

John would be played by Charlie Hunnam

Michael would be played by Anthony Mackie

Jasmine would be played by Samantha Marie Ware

Veronica would be played by Talisa Soto

Diane would be played by Hannah Emily Anderson

Paige would be played by Kate McKinnon

Yolanda would be played by Jenifer Lewis

You’re stranded on an island, and only one character from any book can save you. Who are you

picking?

Errrmmm – I think it’d have to be Hermione Granger. She could get us both out of that jam in no time!

Besides being a writer, what else do you enjoy?

Meeting new people. And travel, as and when I can. Though I have been concentrating on my book(s), I am a self-confessed bookworm, and will get back to reading shortly.

Do you have any upcoming book promotions?
