In The Spotlight Today: A. Ali Hasan Ali!

How old are you and where are you from?

I am 28 years old and I am from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Tell us more about your book!

As a reader, I enjoy novels that teach me something and add to my general knowledge, and so I humbly intend to add insights into Arabia for my readers. My book is inspired by Arabia's pre-Islamic ancient history and traditions; and that is reflected in the time, placement, and the core of the events taking place in the novel.

The story of a young father who quests across ancient Arabia to save his son from mysterious forces who plan to sacrifice him and bring about the ruination of the world.

You’re sharing an elevator with a big name publisher. Pitch your book using 20 words or less!

An epic adventure into Arabian folk tales, legends & mythology, sorcery, giants, dragons, and jinn (genies)

What does your ideal writing space look like?

My iPad’s screen, I guess! I use an app called ‘Pages’; it’s easy for me to carry my iPad and keyboard anywhere. I write whenever I find a suitable time and space: anywhere quiet and comfortable at home, on a plane, in the back seat of my friend’s car as we travel to Dubai every weekend, and even in bed before I sleep.

If your book was turned into a movie, who would play your main characters?

For the hero in my book, Fada, I find Henry Ian Cusick best fitting; his long hair and his worried facial features do match.

And for the villain, Behas, his piece of humor reminds me of Johnny Depp’s role in Pirates of the Caribbean

You’re stranded on an island, and only one character from any book can save you. Who are you picking?

Gandalf’s friend, Gwaihir—a flying character I can think of!

Besides being a writer, what else do you enjoy?

My full-time job. And as a transport planner, I also enjoy playing SimCity. I guess every urban planner does. And from where I live, between the rapidly-growing cities of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, my job as a planner feels like playing SimCity in real life.

Do you have any upcoming book promotions?

My book is currently listed in a 100-copies-giveaway promotion on Goodreads, and it is open for entries until July 28, 2020.

And since I finished writing my book during the current global pandemic, I intend to donate all my profits gained in the first four months to provide medical equipment to people in need. And that’s any book bought before the 1st of November 2020.
